Ageless Glenn Aguilar and Davao daredevil Bornok Mangosong renew their rivalry as they see action in the 2nd Diamond Motor Corporation Supercross set to start March 4 at the MX Messiah Fairgrounds in Taytay, Rizal.
The 42-year-old KTM -sponsored Aguilar routed the field to win the overall title in the Pro Open against the young turks of Philippine motocross.
Mangosong failed to contend as he was able to compete in just a single leg of the five-leg series due to his commitment to a popular primetime TV show.
Determined to get even, Mangosong of team Yamaha, vowed to compete in all five legs sponsored by Diamond Motor Corporation and organized by Xtreme Adrenaline Sports headed by Sam Tamayo of Generation Congregation.
Tamayo, a pro rider himself, stressed that this year’s edition isn’t just about the Aguilar-Mangosong rivalry.
‘‘Others are going to give the favorites a tough fight,’’ said Tamayo, who is also exploring the possibility of making the event nationwide.
The second leg will be held on March 25, followed by the third leg on April 29, fourth leg on March 13 at the fifth and final leg on May 27.
‘‘To God be the Glory,’’ said Tamayo, who is a pastor of the Church of Nazarene, during the PSA Forum at the Golden Phoenix Hotel in Pasay City.
Joann Silva of Diamond Motor’s said sponsoring the Supercross is part of the social responsibility of the company which distributes the highly-acclaimed Montero and other Mitsubishi vehicles.
Known for its fusion of music, games and riproaring track action including driftinfg, this year’s competitions will also also feature heated rivalries among the amateurs, ladies, veterans, novice, legends, kids, executive class, underbone and local enduro.
