In a rare moment where she allowed an interview to stray past the lines of the volleyball court, Alyssa Valdez opened up for the first time about her rivalry with fellow superstar Mika Reyes and the internet trolls who pose as her followers on social media.
Valdez shrugged off the rivalry with Reyes as being “all part of the game” even as fans of both stars continue to wage a social media war.
But Valdez said outside the court, she has no problems with the 5-foot-11 middle blocker and even looks forward to playing with her someday—preferably on the national team.
“Yeah I think that would be good for the national team also,” Valdez said in an exclusive interview with Inquirer during the recent Davao tryouts for the national squad.
“Outside of volleyball we are all… we both love volleyball. So for sure we’re gonna represent the country the best we can.”
Valdez also addressed social media followers who behave as internet trolls.
“I think we all have our own opinions, also I think it’s better to think twice before clicking, think before putting anything on social media because when you put anything on social media it’s gonna be there forever,” she said.
How does she deal with her share of trolling? “If it affects you, then don’t read.”
Valdez is back in Bangkok where she is playing for 3BB Nakornnont in the Volleyball Thailand League.
