Hardly threatened, Cignal-San Beda hacked out a 94-50 rout of Jose Rizal University to strengthen its hold of the top spot in the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena.
Robert Bolick fired 16 points, while Ben Adamos and Andreas Cahilig scored 11 each to lead the Hawkeyes, who vie to stay in the top two for an automatic Final Four slot.
“We’re very happy with the way we played today,” said coach Boyet Fernandez as his Hawkeyes nailed a seventh straight victory after dropping their first assignment. “We stuck with our game plan and we were able to limit (Tey) Teodoro and (Paolo) Pontejos.”
Only the top two teams at the end of the elimination round will clinch outright semifinal berths.
Earlier, Wangs Basketball arrested Blustar Detergent’s late rally for a crucial 87-78 win that kept the Couriers’ playoff bid alive.
John Tayongtong led the Couriers with 18 points, including four of the team’s final six points that helped repulse the Dragons’ rally.
“We’re still hopeful to make it to the playoffs,” said coach Pablo Lucas after his Couriers improved to 3-5.
Cedric Labing-isa also finished with 18 points, while Allen Enriquez scored 14 and grabbed nine boards for the Couriers. —RANDOLPH LEONGSON, INQUIRER.NET
