Routs mark WNCAA caging, volley

FOUR-TIME CHAMPION Lyceum coasted to an easy 99-39 win over St. Scholastica’s College to kick off its title-retention bid in the basketball tournament of the 41st WNCAA on Sunday.
 
Also posting lopsided wins at the Lyceum gym were Philippine Women’s University over Emilio Aguinaldo College, 69-43; College of St. Benilde over University of Asia and the Pacific, 75-39; and Rizal Technological University over La Consolacion Manila, 64-35.
 
Host Centro Escolar University led all the way in crushing San Beda Alabang, 72-44, during the inaugurals Saturday at the jampacked Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
At the St. Scholastica’s gym, all but one of seven volleyball matches were decided in straight sets, with St. Scholastica scoring a double, beating St. Jude Catholic School, 25-5, 25-6, in midgets, and EAC, 25-10, 25-15, 25-10, in Senior B.
 
Returning St. Paul Pasig also prevailed in its two midgets assignments. It blanked rookie squad Poveda in the first quarter en route to a 37-21 basketball victory and dominated Miriam in volleyball, 25-11, 25-20, in the league being supported by media partner Philippine Daily Inquirer, Mikasa, Molten, Sonak Sports Trading, Manila Bulletin, Lenovo, Solar Sports, Monster Radio RX 93.1, Taichi, Mojo, CEMG, Goody and MJC Press.
