The environment—not the first runner to cross the finish line—would be the biggest winner in National Geographic’s 8th Earth Day Run on April 23 at Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay.
The race, to be held simultaneously in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Taichung, will benefit the Irrawaddy dolphins in Palawan; the Gift of Life village in Monreal, Masbate; Apo Reef in Mindoro Occidental; and the Ipo Watershed in Bulacan.
Participants in the 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K categories will get race kits that include LED-infused shoelaces.
The marathon event will kick off at 2 a.m., followed by the half-marathon race at 3:30 a.m.
The 10K category starts at 5 a.m. and the 5K run at 5:20 a.m.
“We’re excited to look back on our eight years of environmental advocacy and share and celebrate with our runners the positive change that they helped make possible through the years by joining Earth Day Run,” said Fox Networks Group Philippines’ Charo Espedido during the recent media launch held at Impressions restaurant of Maxim’s Hotel in Pasay.
Runners who will come in their best ensemble made from recycled materials will also receive prizes.
