Seeking to bolster its thin front court, GlobalPort has signed up ex-NBAer Sean Williams as its import for the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Sources close to the situation confirmed the news as the Batang Pier welcome the 6-foot-10 behemoth to their roster.

Williams, 30, was drafted 17th overall by the New Jersey Nets back in 2007 and also saw action with the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics.

He is also no stranger in the international scene, playing in China with Fujian Xunxing, while also having stops in Puerto Rico, Israel, Turkey.

His last stint was in Iran with Shahrdari Tabriz, where he averaged 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 4.1 blocks this past season.

Williams’ entry will be a huge boost for the Batang Pier, who had to make do of JR Quinahan, Billy Mamaril, Mick Pennisi, and Rico Maierhofer this past Philippine Cup.

However, if things don’t pan out as expected, GlobalPort has reinforcement Jarrid Famous waiting in the wings.

Famous last played for the Batang Pier in the 2015 Commissioner’s Cup, where he averaged 30.2 points and 23.0 rebounds.
