The Philippines’ own Tanduay brand is now officially affiliated with the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Brooklyn Nets and its home arena, the Barclays Center.
The ground-breaking partnership, which was made official through a press release by the Brooklyn franchise on Wednesday (Tuesday in the US), marks the first time an NBA team has formed an alliance with a Philippine-based company.
“We are excited to partner with Tanduay Rum as Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets continue to go global,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment. “Partnering with Tanduay is a valuable opportunity to welcome an emerging international business into our arena that will enhance the overall experience of our fans.”
Tanduay President Lucio Tan Jr. also shared his delight upon joining the esteemed NBA Eastern Conference franchise.
“Tanduay is very proud to be part of this historic partnership, the first of its kind for a Filipino company,” he was quoted as saying. “Like Brooklyn, Tanduay shares a unique spirit and dynamic character that is anything but ordinary. Tanduay and Brooklyn are a natural fit, and we look forward to building our legacy together.”
Aside from becoming the presenting sponsor of Barclay’s 40/40 Club & Restaurant, Tanduay’s signature rum will be also the official alcoholic beverage of the massive indoor arena.
Additionally, a variety of Tanduay Rum signage will be integrated throughout the BROOKLYN SHOW™ platform.
To kick off their partnership, Tanduay will host a post-game party and concert at the 40/40 Club after the Nets play host to the neighboring New York Knicks on Sunday (Monday in Manila). Khristian Ibarrola /ra
