La Salle returns to winning ways, turns back FEU

De La Salle swerved back into the winning column and dispatched Far Eastern University, 25-5, 25-23, 25-23, to start its second round campaign of the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Arena.
The Lady Spikers, after losing to Ateneo on Saturday, improved to 6-2 to retain the second seed while the Lady Tamaraws crashed to sixth with a 4-4 slate.
Tin Tiamzon closed things out for the Lady Spikers with an off-the-block kill that sent the Lady Tamaraws to their second straight defeat.
Despite the convincing sweep, Lady Spikers head coach Ramil De Jesus warned his team not to get too relaxed whenever they get a big lead especially in the latter sets.
“Maybe they think a set ends at 23 or 24,” said De Jesus, laughing. “They played a little bit more relaxed than usual and that is when other teams capitalize and make a come back.”
Fortunately for De Jesus, a comeback was far from their sights as the Lady Spikers were able to finish things off in straight sets.
Aduke Ogunsanya and Desiree Cheng had 11 points apiece to lead La Salle while Tiamzon and Kim Kianna Dy had 10 and nine points, respectively.
Remy Palma led the Lady Tamaraws with nine points while Bernadeth Pons, who’s been the league’s second-best scorer with an average of 16.85 points a game, managed to add eight.
