It would be quite unfamiliar for many, still, when Wayne Chism and Yeng Guiao are on the opposite side of the floor against Rain or Shine when the PBA Commissioner’s Cup gets off the ground on March 17 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
That’s because the duo, which has had a long relationship in the league under one team before, will be with NLEX when the Road Warriors clash with Rain or Shine on opening day.
The Painters will actually be defending their crown, which they won with Guiao at the helm last season.
That plot will be the main fare that day as Guiao and Chism put the Elasto Painters to the test right on opening day, with Rain or Shine to parade burly Shawn Taggart in the 7 p.m. contest.
Chism played for the Painters last season, seeing action in just two games in the Governors’ Cup before injuring a knee. That was also the last time that Guiao coached Rain or Shine before taking on a new challenge at NLEX.
Chism won a Best Import award with the Painters but fell short in bagging a title.
Meanwhile, another returnee, James White, leads Mahindra against Meralco and Alex Stepheson in the 4:15 p.m. contest where both teams hope to open up with a win.
