Record field joins CT Ironman 70.3

A record field of nearly 1,000 triathletes, including some of the world’s best, will be competing in the Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 which gets underway Sunday in Subic Bay.

A total prize of $15,000 and 30 slots to the Ironman 70.3 World Championships are up for grabs in the 1.9K swim, 90K bike and 21K run event.

Australian Craig Alexander and Swiss Caroline Steffen would defend their titles in the men and women divisions, respectively.

Inaugural champion Tim Reed, Sam Betten, Jason Hall and Dan Wilson of Australia, and Johan Stofberg of South Africa are among Alexander’s top challengers in the event organized by Sunrise Events Inc. and presented by Century Tuna Bangus, Department of Tourism and Tourism Promotions Board.
Contenders in the women’s side include Radka Kahlefeldt, Dimity Lee Duke, Kate Bevilaqua and Sarah Lester. —ROY LUARCA
