Petron eyes to break away from the field as it battles struggling Cocolife Saturday when the Belo-Philippine Superliga Invitational Conference swings by Bulacan for a triple header at Malolos Sports Complex.
The Blaze Spikers are heavy favorites in the featured 7 p.m. match owing to their impressive wins over fellow league heavyweight Cignal on Thursday.
Cignal clashes with Sta. Lucia in the opening match at 3 p.m., while Foton squares off with Generika-Ayala at 5 p.m.
A revamped Petron is taking the spotlight after its initial success in blending power and glamour starring Rhea Dimaculangan, Carmela Tunay and Mika Reyes.
“The job is not yet done,” said Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos, whose wards are gunning for a third straight win. “This is a very short tournament so we have to win as much as we can.”
The Asset Managers are not short on firepower and star power but so far, Michele Gumabao and Denden Lazaro have yet to score their first win.
Cocolife recently lost to Foton, 25-16, 25-17, 25-13.
“But we can’t be complacent,” Delos Santos said. “Just like us, this team also has the power, but is still adjusting. They are dangerous. We never know what will happen.”
