University of Santo Tomas continued its winning run in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament after a three-set sweep of University of the East, 25-21, 25-15, 25-23, Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Golden Tigresses are now on a four-game winning streak to improve to 5-3, tying National University at third place in the ladder.

Shaya Adorador kept UE in the game with a down-the-line kill to put the score at 24-23 but EJ Laure eventually finished things off for the Golden Tigresses.

UST started the season poorly at 1-3 but Golden Tigresses head coach Kung Fu Reyes said they remained optimistic despite the ordeal.

And now that they have started winning, Reyes said their optimism has finally manifested into wins.

“We stayed optimistic and that optimism eventually became reality,” said Reyes. “We’re just waiting for the players to realize that they’re capable of winning multiple games and this win is a huge morale booster for them.”

Pam Lastimosa, who missed all of Season 78 as due to injury, and substitute Tin Francisco had 10 points apiece to lead UST.

Adorador had 13 points to lead the 1-7 Lady Warriors.
