Far Eastern University made quick work of hapless Adamson University, 25-9, 25-20, 25-11, to go above the .500 mark in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Lady Tamaraws improved to 5-4 behind National University (5-3) and University of Santo Tomas (5-3) in the standings while the Lady Falcons (0-9) lost their 16th straight game dating back to Season 78.
Bernadeth Pons came through in the end for the Lady Tamaraws with a powerful straight-away kill from the middle that ultimately sealed the victory and snapped their two-game skid for their first victory in the second round.
And with the teams’ positioning gets tighter every game day, FEU head coach Shaq Delos Santos said it is empirical for them to be consistent if they ever plan to get a Final Four slot.
“The thing is I want my players to take it to heart that they are competitive,” said Delos Santos. “Because in the first round there were time when we were playing so well then we’d experience a collapse.”
“The good thing is we saw those mistakes early on and we can fix it immediately.”
Toni Rose Basas was the top scorer for the Lady Tamaraws with 16 pointsn while Pons and Remy Palma had 10 points apiece.
Jema Galanza led Adamson with seven points.
FEU’s potent offense proved deadly for the Lady Falcons as the Lady Tamaraws 41 spikes were miles ahead of Adamson’s 14.
