Mary Joy Baron not only stood her ground against Jaja Santiago, she had her way against the whole National University Lady Bulldogs.

Baron showed her class with her mastery in the air against the vaunted Santiago in leading De La Salle to its seventh win in nine games in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.

The star Lady Spiker outscored Santiago, 15-9, and had more blocks than the entire Lady Bulldogs side, 6-4.

“I think I just read every attempt the Lady Bulldogs put up and every time I go for a block I always try to get the right timing,” said Baron Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum. “And once I get the correct timing that’s when I know that I read the situation perfectly.”

Baron, the Best Blocker of Season 78, said facing Santiago is always something she looks forward to as the daunting challenge brings out the best in her.

Baron also knows that she and Santiago will always be matched up against each other.

“Of course Jaja is always a challenge so that’s why I just kept my eye on her because I know NU will always go to her.”
