INDIAN WELLS, California—Andy Murray was stunned in his opening match at the BNP Paribas Open by a man ranked 128 places below him, losing 6-4, 7-6 (4) to Canadian qualifier Vasek Pospisil on Saturday night.
In the women’s draw, Venus Williams cast aside three match points to get past another former No. 1-ranked player, Jelena Jankovic, 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1.
Meanwhile, Filipino-American Treat Huey and Belarusian partner Max Mirnyi bundled out superstars Stanislas Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov, 6-4, 3-6, 10-3.

In Egypt, Francis Casey Alcantara and Zimbabwean Benjamin Lock crushed second seeds Ti Chen of Chinese Taipei and Fajing Sun of China, 6-3, 6-7 (7), (10-7), to capture the Egypt F8 men’s doubles title in Sharm El Sheikh.
