University of Santo Tomas tied National University in fourth place with a 2-0 victory over University of the East Thursday in the UAAP Season 79 men’s football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo Field.
Renz Gumban and rookie Conrado Dimacali netted second-half goals as the Growling Tigers leveled with the Bulldogs with 10 points, but NU remained ahead in goal difference.
“We didn’t get anything going in the first half. I wasn’t satisfied, it was like we didn’t have control. We are not going to win if we don’t have any attempts on goals,” said UST coach Marjo Allado whose aces Jayson Rafol and AJ Pasion struggled.
Gumban dived a header in the 50th minute to open the scoring for UST before Dimacali double the lead with a solo goal in the 79th minute.
In the second match, Nicko Villacin scored in the 67th minute while Jed Diamante delivered the insurance goal in stoppage time as De La Salle carved out a 2-0 win over Adamson.
The Green Archers moved up to sixth place with eight points while the Falcons kept their place at the bottom of the table with three points.
The Red Warriors, who fought valiantly in a scoreless first-half, stayed at five points in seventh place.
