Far Eastern University head coach Shaq Delos Santos believes the Lady Tamaraws’ time to beat Ateneo in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament will come, just not this Season 79.

Ateneo has beaten the Lady Tamaraws eight straight times with the latest ending in five sets, 25-20, 25-22, 17-25, 21-25, 15-8 Saturday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

“Actually I told them earlier that it will come,” said Delos Santos whose Lady Tamaraws slipped to a 5-5 record. “The time will come we’ll finally beat Ateneo, we just have to avoid being restless.”

FEU’s loss to the Lady Eagles this time, though, proved to be the Lady Tamaraws’ own doing.

Ateneo held a 10-5 lead in the fifth set but FEU made things interesting and cut the lead 10-8.

Then the Lady Tamaraws handed Ateneo four of its last five points to secure the Lady Eagles’ 9-1 record and eighth straight Final Four appearance.

Delos Santos said the thought of finally beating Ateneo got into his team and that led to the crucial miscues.

“I think the situation brought it on us but I’m still happy for them because I saw the kids deliver,” said Delos Santos. “They really wanted to beat Ateneo but God didn’t give that opportunity to us. We’ll just have to wait for what’s in store for us.”
