DLSU Eco Car Team-I.C.E. of De La Salle University beat five other Asia-Pacific teams in the UrbanConcept Internal Combustion Engine category to win the first Shell Drivers’ World Championship (DWC) Asia in Singapore on Sunday.
The Philippine team, together with Indonesian squads Bengawan Team 2 from Sebelas Maret University (2nd place) and ITS Team 2 from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (3rd place), will represent the region in the DWC Grand Finals in London where they will compete against top teams from Europe and America in May.
The awarding ceremony was held during the culminating day of the Make the Future Singapore 2017 in Changi Exhibition Center.
Other winners are:
- Clean Diesel Team from Hyogo Prefectural Tajima Technical Institute, Japan (2nd place, Prototype-Internal Combustion);
- Team Virgin from Sakonnakhon Technical College, Thailand (1st place, Prototype-Internal Combustion);
- Eco-Voyager from University of Malaya, Malaysia (2nd place, Prototype-Hydrogen Fuel Cell);
- UiTM Eco-Sprint from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam, Malaysia (1st place, Prototype-Hydrogen Fuel Cell);
- BIT Econopower Club from Beijing Institute of Technology, China (2nd place, Prototype-Battery Electric);
- HuaQi-EV from Guangzhou College of South China University of Technology, China (1st place, Prototype-Battery Electric);
- Team PNEC-NUST-PROTOTYPE from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan (Communications Award);
- EnduroKiwi from University of Canterbury, New Zealand (Vehicle Design Award-UrbanConcept);
- ZEAL ECO-POWER PROTO from Tongji University, China (Vehicle Design Award-Prototype);
- ASU Racing Team from Ain Shams University, Egypt (Safety Award); and
- Team Panthera from Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women, India (Perseverance and Spirit of the Event Award)
The inaugural DWC Asia was the highlight of the four-day Shell Eco-marathon Asia, which gathered 124 student teams from 20 Asia-Pacific countries to build prototype and urban cars that would take the highest mileage with the least energy use.
Other participating Philippine schools were the City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy (CBSAA Masiyentista), Mapua Institute of Technology (Aguila and Cardinals Hiraya), University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (ALTAS Valor), University of Santo Tomas (UST Eco-Tigers I and II), University of Mindanao (Team UM), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP-Manila and PUP Hygears), De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D Stallions), University of the Philippines (Dagisik UP), Far Eastern University Institute of Technology (Team FEU Tech) and Ateneo de Manila University (AtenECO).
