Quick 8 winner Ryan Quimpo and M&H Pro victor Arvin Jay Millet set out to pull off repeat wins over defending champion Jonathan Tiu when the Southern Series of the 2017 National Drag Racing Championships resumes Saturday at Batangas Racing Circuit’s Drag Strip in Rosario, Batangas.
Quimpo and Millet of TEMZ pounced on Tiu of JCT Racing in the season’s kickoff leg as engine gremlins killed the latter’s chances in the Quick 8 finals and knocked him out contention in the M&H Pro races.
Quick 8 third placer Jonathan Young, Vanni Garcia of Vannitec, Romualdo Vasquez, Allan Ararao, Millet and Angelo Chua are expected to prevent a Quimpo repeat in the showdown among the country’s fastest cars over a quarter-mile strip.
In all, a record field of 225 drivers saw action at BRC in last week’s opening leg, according to racing director Fil Gulfin.
Millet bested Young and Quimpo for the M&H Pro class and is also seeking a second victory win over Victor Sherwin Benito in the Expert Class. —STEVE SILVA, RACING CONTRIBUTOR
