Adamson University captured its seventh straight UAAP softball title after coming away with a 3-1 victory over University of Santo Tomas in Game 2 of their Season 79 best-of-three Finals series Friday at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Dely Covarubbias hit an RBI single in the seventh inning, allowing Season MVP Angelie Ursabia to head on to home plate from third base.

Lady Falcons head coach Ana Santiago, who led Adamson to 10 of its 16 softball crows, knew this season would be different since this was the first time in five years that they won’t be having the prolific Queenie Sabobo in the team.

But the Lady Falcons still played like a champion team until the end, although it had been a tougher for them.

“I knew already at the start of the season that this year would be different and I told the kids I won’t expect too much from them,” said Domingo, whose team once went 73-0 across five seasons. “We will play as a team, play your game and I always tell the kids ‘surprise me guys.’”

“This is different, we can’t dominate the league anymore. Yes, we will win but it won’t be that easy.”

Gelyn Labaya was the first to get to home plate for Adamson after Leslie Benabaye’s RBI.

Angel Tonquin put UST on the scoreboard after CJ Roa’s RBI triple.
