Defending champions De La Salle took over the pole position in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament after a quick beating of University of the East, 25-16, 25-15, 25-9, Saturday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

The win completed the Lady Spikers’ sweep of the Lady Warriors this season as they improved to 9-2, tied with Ateneo in the standings but ahead in points 27-26, and formalized their Final Four entry.

UE, meanwhile, slipped to 1-10 as it posed no threat to La Salle all-game long.

Shaya Adorador had the misfortune of handing the Lady Spikers the victory when her final attempt bounced off the net and back to their side of the court.

Lady Spikers head coach Ramil De Jesus said they are on their way of accomplishing their task in the eliminations, and that is to take one of the top two seeds of the league.

“Our target really is either the no. 1 or the no.2 seed so we can get a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four,” said De Jesus. “I just have to keep reminding them to out in the hard work and persevere because we’ve prepared for this for almost a year.”

Desiree Cheng was the high-point lass for the Lady Spikers as she finished with 10 points while Kim Kianna Dy and Mary Joy Baron each had nine.

Adorador had six points for the Lady Warriors.
