De La Salle extended its winning streak in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament after turning back woeful Adamson University, 25-13, 25-14, 25-16, Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Lady Spikers (11-2) are unbeaten in their last six games to keep their hold of the top seed while the Lady Falcons are yet to win in 13 matches.
Bernadette Flora handed her team their 13th straight loss when her service went long.
The Lady Spikers did need just three sets to fend off the Lady Falcons but there was a moment late in the game where the defending champions had trouble closing things out.
Adamson managed to outscore La Salle 5-1 before Flora misfired her serve.
“We weren’t really alarmed when Adamson scored on us and we just reminded the kids that Adamson will bring the fight to them,” said La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo. “Adamson has nothing to lose and if we let our guard down they can get one past us.”
La Salle played without talisman Kim Kianna Dy who physicians advised to rest her injured ankle that she suffered in their game against University of Santo Tomas.
Mary Joy Baron led the Lady Spikers with 13 points while Desiree Cheng and Tin Tiamzon combined for 15 points.
Adamson skipper Jema Galanza led the Lady Falcons with 12 points.
