Philippines all-time 3rd overall
JAKARTA—Team Philippines is in third place behind Indonesia and Thailand according to an all-time medal count released by the organizing Indonesian Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Inasoc) Friday.
The Filipinos trail the Thais by 600 gold medals while holding a 57-gold advantage over fourth-running Malaysia.
The bulk of the Filipinos’ overall harvest of 2,846 medals are bronzes—1,121. The silvers add up to 923, while the golds number 802.

Thailand has a gold-silver-bronze tally of 1,402-1,208-1,193.

Though organizers have told canoe/kayak delegations that they are scrapping the heats altogether and moving entries straight into the finals because of Lake Cipule’s ability to accommodate so many lanes, according to a Channel News Asia report Thursday.
Construction of the canoe/kayak site in Lake Cipule started just three months ago “even if the venue was selected for the games more than a year ago.”
The report also said there was corruption in the construction of the official athletes’ village in Palembang, South Sumatra.
