UAAP men’s volley: Adamson foils UST; NU rolls past UE

Adamson University foiled University of Santo Tomas’ plans to clinch the last Final Four spot in the UAAP Season 79 men’s volleyball tournament coming away with a quick 25-23, 25-19, 25-17 sweep Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Growling Tigers needed to win their match against the Falcons to claim the fourth spot but they had the misfortune of slipping to 6-7 and will now have to win their match against third seed Far Eastern University if they ever want to get to the semifinals.

Adamson, which is out of the Final Four picture with a 4-9 slate, did not produce the greatest of offenses with Dave Pletado and John Yude leading the way with nine points apiece.

What killed UST was its own miscues with the Growling Tigers committing 35 errors as compared to Adamson’s 22.

Skipper Arnold Bautista was the high-point man for UST with seven points.

National University, meanwhile, brushed off University of the East in straight sets, 25-15, 25-15, 25-18.

The Bulldogs improved to 12-1 to stay in second behind Ateneo, which owns a perfect 13-0 card.

Fauzi Ismail torched the Red Warriors with 20 points while Bryan Bagunas had nine points for NU.

UE has long been eliminated from Final Four contention as the Red Warriors slipped to a 1-12 slate.
