Altamirano looking to grow as coach of Flying V in D-League
Eric Altamirano returns to the PBA D-League as head coach after his successful stint with National University in the UAAP.
Altamirano will call the shorts for Flying V Thunder, the first sports team of the petroleum company.
Article continues after this advertisementThe former NU head coach said he sees his stint as a new challenge after leaving the Bulldogs, whom he steered to a UAAP men’s basketball title in 2014.
“I don’t think it’s redemption, I look at my new coaching job as a challenge,” said Altamirano Thursday in a presser at Filoil Flying V Centre. “Coaching in the D-League is very much different from the UAAP.”
Altamirano also coached NU in D-League in 2016 when the Bulldogs saw action in the developmental tournament as part of their preseason training.
Article continues after this advertisement“It’s something that can also help me grow as a coach,” said Altamirano. “I’ve been coaching in the collegiate level for six years so it’s something new to me. Hopefully we’ll have good results also coaching in the D-League.”
