Eric Altamirano returns to the PBA D-League as head coach after his successful stint with National University in the UAAP.

Altamirano will call the shorts for Flying V Thunder, the first sports team of the petroleum company.

The former NU head coach said he sees his stint as a new challenge after leaving the Bulldogs, whom he steered to a UAAP men’s basketball title in 2014.

“I don’t think it’s redemption, I look at my new coaching job as a challenge,” said Altamirano Thursday in a presser at Filoil Flying V Centre. “Coaching in the D-League is very much different from the UAAP.”

Altamirano also coached NU in D-League in 2016 when the Bulldogs saw action in the developmental tournament as part of their preseason training.

“It’s something that can also help me grow as a coach,” said Altamirano. “I’ve been coaching in the collegiate level for six years so it’s something new to me. Hopefully we’ll have good results also coaching in the D-League.”
