Mika Reyes has had her days playing under the bright lights of the esteemed rivalry of Ateneo and La Salle.

This time, Reyes was on the outside looking in.

Reyes, who faced the Lady Eagles five straight times in the UAAP volleyball finals, said her alma mater’s slew of errors practically brought the Lady Spikers down in their rematch against Ateneo.

“It was a good game, but the errors really hurt them,” said Reyes Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum. “The unforced errors are still there, and obviously La Salle had more errors than Ateneo.”

The Lady Spikers’ four-set loss to Ateneo, 12-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-19, sent them to the second seed with an 11-3 record while the Lady Eagles took sole possession of the first spot with a 12-2 card in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.

La Salle had a distinct 47-37 lead in the spikes department but awarded Ateneo 36 free points due to errors.

Ateneo managed to limit its miscues to 24.

Reyes, though, gave advice to the girls who now wear the shirt she once wore for half a decade.

“Always play your best, always give it your best, and enjoy the game,” said Reyes. “If you give it your best, you won’t regret it, whatever the result of the game.”
