A draw against Gata Kamsky on Saturday puts Wesley So in a share of the lead with Alexander Onischuk and Varuzhan Akobian in the 2017 US Championship in St. Louis, Missouri.

A day after shocking four-time US champion Hiraku Nakamura, Onischuk beat Jeffery Xiong to catch up with So and Akobian, who drew with Robson Ray, at 6.5 points in the all-Grandmaster tournament.

The Cavite-born So raised his unbeaten run to 65 games and is gunning for the $50,000 top purse against Daniel Naroditsky in the 11th and final round at press time.

Onischuk is pitted against Kamsky while Akobian is ranged against Nakamura, who was at 5.5 points with second seed Fabiano Caruana. —ROY LUARCA
