Brian Heruela has proven time and again that whenever coach Leo Austria calls his number, he can provide his absolute best for San Miguel.
That was the case again on Sunday when the Cebuano guard fired eight points and grabbed four rebounds in his 12 minutes on the floor in the Beermen’s 103-97 win over Star.
“It’s a matter of staying ready,” he said.
Heruela has only averaged 1.0 point, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assist in his short 6.5 minutes through two games, which isn’t that bad for a third-string point guard.
“Thank God things went in my way and I was able to knock them shots for my team and give us a good cushion and a comfortable lead,” he said.
With a team with such depth as San Miguel, Heruela knows the best thing you could do is stay ready to match the contributions provided by the starters.
“As a team, we are a pretty strong team and we believe that we’re a very strong team so we have to show just that. For me, personally, I’m always ready whenever coach calls my name.”
