DepEd promises ‘professional’ officiating

Criticisms on how the games in the Palarong Pambansa should be carried out have been constructively noted by the Department of Education.

DepEd assistant secretary Tonisito Umali said they had joined hands with the Philippine Sports Commission and the national sports associations to ensure that the technical side of running each sport would be professionally done.

“They say the Palaro should be of international standards in terms of equipment, playing venues and rules,” said Umali. “We’re looking at specific sports that are being criticized and have engaged the PSC on a level that it has never been engaged before.”

The 60th Palarong Pambansa is set April 23 to 30 in San Jose Buenavista, Antique, with over 7,000 elementary and high school athletes competing.
