The Philippine Sports Commission hopes to develop a sporting culture around the country and will push for a project that will ensure that the country’s sporting heroes will not be forgotten.

The PSC wrapped up its three-day directional meeting among the top key officials of the government sports agency by laying down a five-year action plan hinged on making sports accessible to all Filipinos.

“This is the mantra of President (Rodrigo) Duterte. Let’s develop a sporting culture with the help of the LGUs (local government units),” said PSC chair Butch Ramirez.

He explained that they’ll create a culture that generates not only a wider base of athletic talents and high-performing athletes but a healthy lifestyle among the communities in the LGUs as well.

The PSC will also create a database of all Filipino athletes nationwide.

“We don’t have a record of all the athletes who sacrificed themselves for the glory of our country,” said PSC commissioner Ramon Fernandez.

The documentation will also fall under the PSC’s sports development plan and will include athletes who join the Batang Pinoy Games and the Philippine National Games.

“It’s hard to find the credentials of these athletes if you search the Internet,” said PSC commissioner Charles Maxey.

The PNG will hold its national finals on Dec. 3 to 9 in Cebu City while the Batang Pinoy will begin its regional qualifying contests on July 9 to 15 in Oroquieta City for the Mindanao leg.

Commissioner Celia Kiram said the Visayas leg is scheduled Sept. 10-16 in Dumaguete and the Luzon leg in Vigan on Oct. 22-28.
