With a dream of reigniting the students’ passion for the league, the NCAA is planning on staging the games outside of the usual venues.

Incoming NCAA president Rev. Fr. Nemesio Tolentin, OAR bared the league’s unconventional plan to expand the reach of the league through staging games in schools and other venues outside of the metro.

“We have discussed some innovations for this incoming season and were introducing the NCAA on Tour, where games will be held in schools and some other places so that we can bring the NCAA closer to the people and to the fans,” he said on Friday during the NCAA Season 93 turnover ceremony in incoming host school San Sebastian College-Recoletos in Recto.

The move is reminiscent of what the league did back in Season 88, where a pair of playdates were held in Sta. Cruz, Laguna and Subic Bay.

Tolentin shared that the host school are honored to have this opportunity as the NCAA seeks to bring the league to a larger audience.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity and a great privilege for us to lead the NCAA to soar to greater heights,” he said. “We are confident that we can accomplish this responsibility with success with the support and commitment shown by the Management Committee and whole NCAA family.”

Incoming NCAA chairman Rev. Fr. Glynn Ortega, OAR also added, “We’re in for reigniting. We want to reignite the spirit and the fire of our fans, so one thing to do that is to bring the games closer and play it in our schools.”

NCAA Season 93 opens on July 8 at Mall of Asia Arena, with San Beda facing San Sebastian and Arellano battling Mapua in the curtain raiser.
