Ateneo is taking a different approach for its Final Four matchup against Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.

While other teams focused on how they stack up against their foes, the Lady Eagles instead decided to fine-tune their machinery before looking to breakdown the intricacies of the Lady Tamaraws.

Assistant coach Sherwin Meneses said Friday they’re focused on improving themselves in the one week before they take on FEU.

“We’re not yet thinking of our opponent, our goal is to prepare ourselves for Sunday and so far we’re seeing good results from the practices,” said Meneses at Ateneo’s Blue Eagle Gym after practice.

The Lady Eagles swept the Lady Tamaraws in the eliminations, coming away with two five-set wins, 25-19, 24-26, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11, and 25-20, 25-22, 17-25, 21-25, 15-8.

“Our preparation against the Lady Tamaraws will depend on the team’s performance on practice, and as far as I’ve seen they’ve been great,” said Meneses.

“Maybe we’ll start building our game plan against FEU tomorrow. Of course we’re not discounting FEU, we just decided to focus on ourselves first.”

Meneses added they will have to rely once more on their teamwork that has worked wonders for them during the eliminations when they finished with a league-best 12-2 card.

“Of course it will be our teamwork that will lead us to the victory, that’s the number one key because everyone will attack and everyone will play defense,” said Meneses.
