Sarmiento, Abrigo dominate Clark drag races
Danes Sarmiento struck in the Quick 8 and Alvin Abrigo ruled the M&H Super Pro class in the absence of defending champion Jonathan Tiu in the third leg of the 2017 National Drag Racing Championships Northern Series over the weekend at Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
Two years after a terrifying mishap in which he nearly died after overshooting the end-pit of the quarter-mile straightaway, Sarmiento timed 10.374 seconds in his Dettaglia machine to beat Allan Ararao (10.516) for the Quick 8 title.
Abrigo clocked 10.94 seconds to thwart Sarmiento’s bid for a double victory in the M&H Super Pro final, with Ararao settling for third place in the race sponsored by M&H, Aguila Auto Glass and Sparco.
Ryan Quimpo topped the M&H Pro class and Lewy Manio won in the Diesel class. —STEVE SILVA, RACING CONTRIBUTOR
