For La Salle veteran Majoy Baron, the postponement of the UAAP volleyball finals will not affect the Lady Spikers’ bid to retain their crown.
The starting middle blocker for the Lady Spikers said the decision to move the title series against the Ateneo Lady Eagles would give them enough time to prepare.
“For us it’s an advantage because we get to prepare longer and better,” said Baron. “It also makes us very excited to play.”
The UAAP board decided to move the championships from April 29 (Game 1) to May 2. Game 2 is also reset for May 6 and, if necessary, Game 3 on May 10.
All games will now be played at Smart Araneta Coliseum from the original venue Mall of Asia Arena.
But the rubbermatch for the last finals berth in the men’s division between Far Eastern University and National University will push through as scheduled Wednesday at 12 noon at MoA Arena.
The Tamaraws stretched the Bulldogs’ twice-to-beat allowance after a 22-25, 26-24, 28-26, 25-17 win on Sunday.
The winner will face the defending champion Ateneo Blue Eagles in the finals.
The schedule change was made to give way to the Asean Summit slated April 26 to 29 at Philippine International Convention Center.
The blockbuster women’s matchup will be the sixth installment of the famed Ateneo-La Salle rivalry.
