Mangosong, Reyes fastest in Taytay race

True to form, Davao pride Rhowell Matias Mangosong IV routed the field in the elite PTT Pro Open category even as 12-year-old Sonnie Quiana Reyes stunned the ladies’ class in the third leg of the Diamond Motor Supercross series over the weekend at Mx Messiah Fairgrounds in Taytay, Rizal.

The 25-year-old Yamaha ace and a stalwart of Team Unstoppable Athletes Mindanao, popularly known in the racing circuit as Bornok, frolicked in the absence of veteran Glen Aguilar to rule the 20-lap race under the midday heat.

Mangosong, who also gave credit to long-time mechanic Aikee Mapa for improving his Yamaha YZ 450F to perfection, vaulted himself back into contention for overall supremacy.

“I feel confident,” said Mangosong going into the fourth and penultimate leg.

The 42-year-old Aguilar won the first two legs but failed to compete due to another commitment.

Reyes, an incoming seventh grader at St. Paul College of Bocaue in Bulacan bested Jasmin Jao, daughter of another veteran racer, Jolet.

Reyes’ younger brother, Wenson, topped the 65cc and 85cc for kids.
