Ceres Negros tries to bring its impressive international form to the domestic game on Saturday when the Busmen take on Kaya FC Makati as the inaugural Philippines Football League finally kicks off at University of Makati Stadium.
Three days after clinching a berth in the AFC Cup knockout stage, the Busmen seek to continue their winning ways against a dangerous Kaya side in the match marking the start of the country’s first professional, community-based league.
“We’re also focused on winning the league this season,” said Ceres coach Risto Vidakovic. “Every game will be very important especially the match against Kaya because we want to start the season with a win and get some confidence going forward.”
Over at Biñan Stadium, Stallion Laguna and Manila Meralco collide in another battle of contenders.
Stallion, which organized and ruled the preseason tournament participated in by PFL clubs, beat Meralco last March, but the Manila squad is determined to also open its bid on a positive note with Phil and James Younghusband leading the charge.
“Ceres is doing well in the AFC Cup, but you can expect Kaya to fight until the end,” said Kaya coach Chris Greatwich.
