Bayron tows Thai, Mondilla by 1 stroke
Jay Bayron started strong and held sway the rest of the way to tally a bogey-free 3-under 69 Friday, towing Thai Gunn Charoenkul and Clyde Mondilla heading to the final round of the ICTSI Orchard Golf Championship at Orchard’s Player course in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
Bucking a double-bogey start, Mondilla birdied No. 4 and revved up with birdies on holes 10, 12, 15 and 17 that negated bogeys on 14 and 16.
Counting his earlier rounds of 71-69, the 38-year-old Bayron pooled a 7-under 209, one shot up on Charoenkul, who fired a day best 67, and Mondilla, who salvaged a 71.
Zanieboy Gialon faded with two bogeys in the first four holes and finished with a 73, dropping to solo fourth at 213. American William Cannon carded 72 and Thai Panuwat Muenlek shot 68 to stay within striking distance at 214.
Tony Lascuña also eagled the 18th for a 71, sharing 215 with American John Catlin (72), Thai Kasidit Lepkurte (71) and Elmer Salvador (75). —ROY LUARCA
