Palace congratulates Pacquiao, recognizes Marquez as ‘worthiest opponent’

MANILA, Philippines—The Palace on Sunday congratulated the people’s champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao for winning his third match with Mexican Juan Miguel Marquez.

“Once again, Manny Pacquiao has made us proud to be Filipinos. We congratulate Manny, congratulations to the Filipino people and congratulations to Juan Miguel Marquez for a very good fight,” Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang said in a radio interview.

“We saw the spirit of Juan Miguel Marquez and maybe no one will object if I say that Juan Miguel Marquez is probably the worthiest opponent that Manny Pacquaio has ever faced,” Carandang added.

Pacquiao won via a majority decision from the judges in the match held in Las Vegas.

The fight disappointed Filipino fans because Pacquiao did not knock down Marquez. Some even thought Marquez won.
