Jerrick Ahanmisi joined forces with Tyrus Hill in a searing third quarter run as Adamson thumped St. Benilde, 70-59, on Sunday to stay unbeaten in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup.
Ahanmisi finished with 16 points, while Hill, a Filipino-American rookie from Los Angeles, tallied 15 points for the Falcons, who outscored the Blazers, 25-8, in the third period on their way to a fourth straight victory at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Sean Manganti and Philip Manalang also dished out solid games for coach Franz Pumaren, who refused to get carried away by his team’s impressive start to the pre-season tournament.
“It’s still too early and I’m just hoping we can start being more aggressive in playing smarter basketball,” said Pumaren. “If you look at it, we tend to relax and right now we’re trying to play consistent.”
Later, National U extended its unbeaten start to three games after turning back Mapua, 85-80.
Matt Salem and Jayjay Alejandro fired 15 points each for the Bulldogs, who held off the Cardinals’ late assault to remain clean.
“It’s still a process for us playing different positions and it was a chance to test the players,” said NU coach Jamike Jarin.
