Gilas getting additional boost from Ultras Filipinas

Dominating wins by the Philippines have been one of the staples in the 2017 Seaba Championship.

The other is the team’s cheering squad in the Ultras Filipinas, who have relentlessly supported Gilas since the start of the tournament.

“I love the Ultras Filipinas. In fact, at the start of the games, we were trying to get the guy controlling the sound system to cut the music off because the Ultras were starting their chant,” Reyes said.

The Ultras have been a fixture in Philippine Azkals’ matches, but this time, they have decided to take their act to the Big Dome as Gilas shoots for an elusive seat in the 2017 Fiba Asia Cup to be held in Lebanon in August.

Their effort hasn’t gone unnoticed from the players with June Mar Fajardo admitting that the tireless cheers have been huge in boosting the players’ energy.

“Their support has been huge. It’s great that they’re always here supporting us. It fuels us to play at our best and also helps our confidence,” he said.

Reyes hopes to continue seeing the Ultras for the rest of the tournament.

“We expect them to be there every game. It’s great to have them,” he said.
