It’s not unusual for athletes to form a tight-knit camaraderie among teammates.
But it’s certainly out of the ordinary when two professional basketball players, who used to play on the same squad, tie the knot.
Such is the case with Phoenix Mercury superstar Diana Taurusi, who recently married her former squadmate Penny Taylor.
The private ceremony, as per ESPN, took place over the weekend, which the Olympic Gold medalist described as “one of the happiest days we’ve ever had.”
Taylor, 35, officially retired as a player last season, and currently works with the Mercury as director of player development.
The recently hitched pair, meanwhile, were teammates with the Arizona-based franchise for the past 10 seasons, and won three WNBA titles in 2007, 2009 and 2014.
The two had been seeing each other during their playing days, but revealed that they kept it behind closed doors since they “didn’t want that to be an issue ever.”
“We’re just really happy,” Taurasi described her union with Taylor to the Arizona Republic, as relayed by ESPN.
