With Fiba U-16 tilt in the bag, Batang Gilas goes for Seaba sweep
Booking a ticket to the 2017 Fiba Under-16 Asian Championship isn’t enough for Batang Gilas Pilipinas coach Mike Oliver.
Oliver said the Philippines isn’t going to letup as it shoots for the Seaba U-16 Championship title on Thursday.
Article continues after this advertisement“There’s no doubt that we want to win,” he said in Filipino after the team nabbed its third straight victory in the 2017 with a 113-46 demolition of Thailand on Wednesday.
The win assured the country a slot in the continental championships along with Malaysia, which is also undefeated at 3-0, but Oliver isn’t satisfied yet.
“Definitely, Malaysia also wants to win. We’re both 3-0 and we’ll have to work hard against them,” he said.
Article continues after this advertisementBatang Gilas cruised to easy wins over Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand and Oliver said his team cannot take Malaysia lightly.
“Malaysia has good outside shooters and they are also hardworking in defense. They use full-court press, so that’s the part that we really have to focus on,” he said.
