San Beda started its campaign in the 2017 Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup with a rousing 96-79 victory over Lyceum Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Robert Bolick anchored the Red Lions assault with 16 points, nine assists, and four rebounds, while AC Soberano went on a perfect 3-of-3 sniping from beyond the arc to wound up with 13 markers and four boards.

Javee Mocon added 12 points, 11 rebounds, and four dimes, while Arnaud Noah got 12 markers in the win.

“The players are very excited because this was our first game. We started bad, we had some turnovers early, we missed easy shots but in the second quarter, I told them that they just had to relax,” said coach Boyet Fernandez.

San Beda bucked its first half struggles and broke away in the third quarter, using a 24-point explosion to grab a 79-64 lead before extending the advantage to 20, 90-70, late in the fourth period.

“I’m always talking to the boys and I was telling them that if we want to beat LPU, we had to match their intensity and aggressiveness. We discussed everything and we just stuck to the gameplan. Credit to the boys,” said Fernandez.

CJ Perez topscored Lyceum with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Jayvee Marcelino got 14 markers.

The Pirates stumbled to their second straight defeat to drop to a 4-2 slate.
