Kevin Alas and Calvin Abueva has had quite a colorful history.

The two crossed paths in the NCAA during their collegiate years with Alas leading Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Abueva doing the same for San Sebastian, and those encounters weren’t without bodily harm.

And on Wednesday in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, the two once again went at it.

Abueva and Alas got tangled up on the floor in the third quarter of the game between NLEX and Alaska in an event that seemed to resemble a Greco-Roman wrestling match.

Others may scoff at the idea of having a 6-foot-2 forward pinning them down, but Alas just laughed it off.

“He’s been doing those kinds of antics when he was still at Baste [San Sebastian], but that’s part of the game,” said Alas of their incident that happened at the 6:18 mark of the penultimate period. “Calvin is a good friend of mine outside of the court so that’s no big deal.”

Making things a little more awkward was Alas’ father Louie is an assistant coach at Alaska.

“I didn’t look at him because he might give me orders,” joked Alas.

Still, it was Alas who got the last laugh as his 11 points helped the Road Warriors to a 100-92 win over Alaska snapping their nine-game losing streak in the conference.
