Loved ones are expected to console athletes in times of bitter and demoralizing defeats, but apparently, one mixed martial artist’s mother did not get the cue.
Russian Featherweight Viktor Kichigin suffered a second-round technical knockout loss against Ruslan Yamanbaev at the Fight Nights Global 67 event in Saint Petersburg over the weekend.
With his face all bloodied up and his ego bruised, his mother—and purportedly one of his trainers—entered the cage and attended to his corner.
But instead of a warm hug or some consoling words, Kichigin received a tongue-lashing and a good old hard slap for good measure.
Still in shock over his defeat, the professional fighter just took the additional and totally unnecessary strike in stride.
Her mom, however, lightly brushed his son’s bruises after the surprising smack.
