Globalport clings to playoff hope after upset of Rain or Shine
Globalport stayed in the playoff race in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup after coming away with a 107-101 win over Rain or Shine Friday at Alonte Sports Arena in Laguna.
The Batang Pier improved to 4-6 to tie Phoenix for the ninth spot while the Elasto Painters slipped to .500 territory with a 5-5 record.
Article continues after this advertisementGlobalport had a 101-97 lead with over a minute remaining after Terrence Romeo hit a triple to give the Batang Pier a little bit of breather.
Romeo would extend their lead to 103-98 at the 53-second mark but Jeff Chan cut it to a single basket, 103-101, after hitting a step-back triple with 41 seconds remaining.
Chan’s last basket, however, was the Rain or Shine’s last moment of glory as Sean Anthony slashed off any attempts to a comeback as he made a dagger of a jumper with 26 seconds left to give Globalport the 105-101 lead.

Duke Crews had 23 points and 17 rebounds to lead Rain or Shine while James Yap churned out 22 points, 18 of which came from beyond the arc.
