Global cebu eyes AFC Cup finals

Pumped up and motivated, Global Cebu tries to defy the odds on Tuesday night when it clashes with Singapore League side Home United in the second leg of their AFC Cup Asean zonal semifinal tie at Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.

The Philippines Football League powerhouse is looking to become the first Filipino club to reach this far in the AFC Cup. But the Cebu side will have to do it without top defender Amani Aguinaldo who will serve a suspension.

Nonetheless, Global coach Marjo Allado feels his side is equipped to overcome the young club’s biggest challenge.

“It’s not an easy game but we have to beat them,” said Allado whose team needs a victory in the 8:30 p.m. match to advance after a
2-2 draw in the first leg at Rizal Memorial Stadium two weeks ago.

Global can afford another scoring draw but only if it scores more than two goals. Home has two away goals which means a goalless draw and a 1-1 stalemate will see the S-League side advance to the next round.
“We’re fresh and with the mind-set to win,” said Global goalkeeper Patrick Deyto.
