Marie Antoinette San Diego and Malaysian Nur Najiha Azman Hisham drew their fourth round match Tuesday to keep their share of the girls’ lead in the Eastern Asia Juniors Chess Championships in Tagaytay City. San Diego and fellow Woman Fide Master Azman Hisham climbed to 3.5 points, towing 3.0 pointers WFM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham of Malaysia and China’s Ruotong Chu. Indonesian Novenda Priasmoro beat compatriot and fellow FM Yoseph Theolifus Taher to gain the solo lead in the boys division. Priasmoro rose to a perfect 4.0 points, a full point ahead of Filipino International Master Paulo Bersamina, Stephen Rome Pangilinan, John Marvin Miciano and Taher. —ROY LUARCA
Tagaytay Highlands sustains WGAP run
Streaking Tagaytay Highlands notched a victory and a runner-up finish at Valley Golf to keep the overall lead in the 2017 WGAP Circuit in Antipolo recently. Tagaytay, which posted a two-division romp earlier, ruled Class B and finished second in Class C, sharing second leg honors with Class A winner Villamor and Class C titlist Alabang in the eight-stage circuit organized and conducted by the Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines. Villamor pooled 144 points and nipped Valley in the countback for the Class A plum. Villamor edged Tagaytay in Class C but the Highlanders rebounded in Class B, assembling a 145 for a 12-point victory over Forest Hills. —ROY LUARCA
