San Sebastian notched its fifth straight win in the group stages of the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup dismantling Arellano, 71-63, Wednesday at the tournament’s namesake arena in San Juan.

The Stags are now at 5-1, their lone loss coming in their opener, in Group B while the Chiefs are at a lowly 1-4.

Regille Ilagan had a team-high 14 points to lead San Sebastian while lanky forward Michael Calisaan added 11.

Stags head coach Egay Macaraya was impressed with how his team recovered from a dismal third quarter to close the game out in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Arellano turned up the heat in the penultimate period and outscored San Sebastian 27-13.

“I can see that they don’t give up, even though we had a lousy third quarter they immediately bounced back in the fourth,” said Macaraya. “It’s like they have this instinct that they will come back no matter what. They know that they can win every game and they believe in themselves.”

Allen Enriquez had a game-high 15 points to lead the Chiefs.
